Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo

The Beardsley Zoo is the only zoo in the state of Connecticut. It includes one of the few carousels in the state. The Zoo is divided into five sections:
1) South American Rainforest - includes a boa constrictor, poison dart frogs, scaibis, Yacare caimans, an ocelot, white-faced saki monkeys, black howlers, pygmy marmosets, golden lion tamarins, agoutis, Orinoco geese, and common vampire bats,
2) Predators - contains an Amur leopard, Canada lynx, and Amur tigers.
3) Alligator Alley - holds a wide variety of water birds, American alligators, gray foxes, North American river otters, sandhill cranes, a white-tailed deer, and Bald Eagle,
4) Hoofstock - features Andean condors, Mexican wolves, red wolves, maned wolves, peccaries, black-tailed prairie dogs, bison, pronghorns, a llama, a turkey vulture, and a barred owl,
5) New England Farmlard - contains a collection of domestic breeds and wild animals that might be found in rural Connecticut, such as guinea hogs, Dexter cattle, a black swan, pheasants, ducks, geese, a common raven, a snowy owl, Cotswold sheep, San Clemente goats, Nubian goats, Narragansett turkeys, poultry, and greater rheas. There is also a Bug House and a Reptile and Amphibian House.

Machine 2 is located with the Carousel. The Carousel hours are different from Zoo hours. They are 9:30am to 4:00 pm. The Zoo is open later.

Machine 2: has 4 designs, all are vertical.

2) Wolf head
3) Tiger
4) Snake

Medallion Machine 1:
1) Red Panda,
2) Spider Monkey,
3) Wolf,
4) Giant Anteater.

Retired 1: 1) Wolf howling to Moon, 2) Carousel horse, 3) Peacock, 4) Tiger laying facing left.

5/25 There is a medallion machine.

8/20/25 Penny machine not working. Worker said that it is 'full' but it was not accepting card or dollar bills. Tried multiple times.
7/29/26 was told by employees Penny and token machine are out of order and are going to be removed. - MTA
9/4/2026 Penny Machine was gone
