The California Academy of Sciences is among the largest Museums of Natural History in the world. The public areas of the Academy are divided into three general areas:
1) The Steinhart Aquarium, which takes up the basement area and can partially be viewed top-down from the ground floor.
2) The Morrison Planetarium, which is devoted to things astronomical. The half-hour shows in the planetarium theater change periodically and can be reserved ahead of time.
3) The Kimball Natural History Museum, which, in addition to its African Hall and a Foucault pendulum, includes a variety of changing displays covering a variety of subjects, one being earthquakes.
4) The Osher Rainforest, which is contained inside a four-story dome and includes 1600+ live plants and animals.
