Slatina Seaside Promenade
Opatija · Croatia
This machine is no longer here. The listing stays up because collectors come back years later to check whether the one they remember was real.

April 2010: The Machine has been removed.. (also the Machines at Zadar and Zaton).
October 8, 2022. Visited Opatija today and looked for any Machine (penny or token) on the Promenade. No machine to be found. MWHTH.
Opatija is a Hapsburg-era retreat that is now kind of a cheesey resort. The coin crushing machine was right on the sidewalk along the sea, near the nick-nack huts, in front of the public beach in Opatija. The best estimate on a pinpoint location is on the south side of the road and the north side of the beach they call the Slatina (Croatian/Hrvatsky for "beach") on this map.
Note the interesting "hashmarks" on the back of the coin where the machine pulled it through - very much more dramatic, and covering more surface area, than standard USA penny-crushing hash marks. See attached map for details of location.
