From collectors

This island location, part of the Mascarene Islands, is a former French colony in the Indian Ocean. This overseas department has exactly the same status as European France's departments (similar to counties) and regions. The French Constitution provides that, in general, French laws and regulations (France's civil code, penal code, administrative law, social laws, and tax laws etc.) apply to French overseas departments and is in essence, part of France.

Roland Garros Airport (RUN), formerly known as Gillot Airport, is 7 kilometers east of Saint-Denis. The first plane landed on the island back in 1929. Today, the site is home to France’s 11th largest airport in terms of passenger numbers. It bears the name of Roland Garros, Reunion's aviation pioneer and First World War hero.

Hours of operation: Monday through Sunday 07.00 (7:00 am) to 19.00 (7:00 pm) according to departure flight schedule.

Admission: Free until security check. Parking is available.
