The Fernbank Science Center is a museum, classroom, and woodland complex. It is owned and operated by the DeKalb County School System, which announced in May 2012 it was considering closing the facility to cut its annual budget, then quickly shelved the plan after public outcry. The nearby Fernbank Museum of Natural History is a private non-profit organization that is separate from the Science Center.

Admission to the Science Center is free;
Parking is also free.

1/11/2024: The school district runs the museum and has limited hours - check before visiting. On the morning I visited, it didn't open until noon. jnm 9/1/2024 - Science center is currently closed for renovation

9/5/2026: The machine listed as Retired 1 is incorrect--that machine is at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, which is a different facility. It has its own listing. It was not *moved* there--it was always there. -BK
